EV Charging Gets Even Simpler: EDRI Launches On-the-Spot QR and Bank Card Payment System

E.ON Drive Infrastructure (EDRI) has completed a comprehensive renewal of its network of more than 400 electric vehicle (EV) charging points. The upgrade includes a fresh appearance for the charging stations, updated connector markings, and a renewed backend system. Thanks to the newly introduced ad hoc payment options, EV owners can now pay for charging without registration: either by QR code, or directly by bank card at fast (FC) and ultra-fast (UFC) charging stations.

With the refresh, EDRI charging stations now boast E.ON’s new corporate design, making them more recognizable and giving them a unified appearance. The company has completely replaced the backend system to ensure new digital services are even faster and more stable. To meet user needs, the designations and iconography of the charging connectors have also been updated to make the labels and pictograms more user-friendly.

EDRI’s newest investment has made QR code “ad hoc” payments available at all charging locations. By scanning the QR code on the device before charging, users are directed to an online payment platform, where they can start charging their EV quickly and securely without registration. On all current DC chargers—including both fast (FC) and ultra-fast (UFC) units—users can pay and start their charging session effortlessly using the built-in payment terminal. One of the benefits of on-the-spot payment (QR or bank card) is that it may offer a more favorable tariff compared to charging sessions started via apps, as transactions occur directly between the user and operator, without any third-party intermediaries. The company is introducing the new service with special offers and promotional campaigns.

Currently, EDRI operates more than 418 charging points in Hungary, of which 78 deliver 300 kW output. The new ad hoc payment system is now available at all locations nationwide.

EDRI, part of the E.ON Group, is a leading European charge point operator (CPO). The company develops, builds, and operates a public charging network in Hungary that is compatible with any type of EV. EDRI manages over 7,100 charging points across 11 European countries, including Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Poland, the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Italy, Romania, the Netherlands, and Hungary. Working with location partners, EDRI expands its network each year by installing 1,000 additional high-power charging points across Europe.

“The new on-site payment options, whether QR code or bank card, give flexibility not only to private users, but also to companies. The system produces invoices that fully comply with Hungarian legislation, making it easy to account for corporate expenses. This is especially beneficial for companies who want to manage fleet charging in a transparent and simple way,” added Péter Boros, Managing Director of EDRI.

EDRI is constantly expanding and upgrading its charging network to meet the demands of future mobility. To ensure sustainable operation, all EDRI charging stations are powered by 100% certified green energy. The company is also actively involved in developing and scaling up charging infrastructure for electric trucks across Europe. (CIVILHETES)
